Organised by the Pitampura Scrabble Club under the aegis of the Scrabble
Association of India.

Result declaration : 4.00 pm
Game play system : King of the Hill league system, International Scrabble rules,
all players have to play all five rounds and players are advised to carry their
boards with them. Boards should be on the standard international format. Mattel
Scrabble boards are popularly recommended. In case of non availability of
scrabble board, please inform the organizers in advance so that alternate
arrangement can be made. Each game shall be of 50 minutes duration.
The Dictionaries will be the combination of Official Scrabble Players Dictionary
(OSPD) by Merriam Websters and Official Scrabble Words (OSW) by Chambers known
by the acronym SOWPODS. The official adjucation program shall be “Zyzzyva”

18 years of age as on 12.07.2008
For a participant who’s birthday falls on 12th July, he/ she will be counted in
the higher age group.
Eligibilty criteria: Residents of Delhi who have resided for more than
183 days total in the State during the past year.
Trophy : Top three rankers in each category. Judges decision will be
final.
Each participant will receive a participation certificate endorsed by the
Scrabble Association of India.
Note : Any changes in above shall be at the discretion of the organisers

WORLD SCRABBLE CHAMPIONSHIP 2007 MUMBAI

Mattel Inc. and Mattel (UK) are delighted to announce that the 2007 World
SCRABBLE® Championships will be held at the Taj President Hotel in Mumbai,
India on November 9-12. The hosts for this event is the Scrabble
Association of India.
The Schedule
This draft schedule for the championship is subject to minor revision.
However, since we need to vacate the banqueting room by 6:00 P.M. each day
to avoid incurring evening charges, the start and end times each day are
unlikely to change. All events take place at the Taj President Hotel.
Water service will be provided throughout the championship; and tea,
coffee & biscuits will be served halfway through each session. There will
not be a designated area for after hours play.
Thursday, 8 November 7:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. Registration: obligatory
for all contestants. Participants will toast the success of the
Championships with a glass of champagne, and hors d'ouvres will be
provided. Contestants will receive a 'goodie bag' of souvenirs.
Friday, 9 November 8:00 A.M. - 12:30 P.M. Rounds 1-4.
12:30 P.M. - 1:30 P.M. Buffet Lunch is provided for contestants
and officials.
1:30 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. Rounds 5-8.
Saturday, 10 November 8:00 A.M. - 12:30 P.M. Rounds 9-12.

12:30 P.M. - 1:30 P.M. Buffet Lunch is provided for contestants
and officials.
1:30 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. Final Rounds 3-5. The finals are a best-of-
five match; Rounds 4 and 5 will be played only if necessary.

The Venue
The 2007 World SCRABBLE® Championship will be held on November 9-12 at the
Taj President Hotel, 90, Cuffe Parade, Mumbai - 400 005, India, +91 22
6665 0808.
The hotel is in Colaba in the south of Mumbai, not far from a number of
tourist sites including the Gateway to India. Participants staying at the
hotel should fax a reservation form no later than 21 September. As of 13
August, 7 of the 20 rooms being held for our group have been taken. If you
have questions concerning the hotel, please contact Ms. Amruta Mohite as
directed on the reservation form. There are several other hotels of
various price ranges nearby.
We will be providing buffet lunch and two servings of tea and coffee for
all contestants and officials during the Championships. No other
refreshments will be provided, but there will be water stations in the
playing room.
Registration will be held at the hotel at 7 P.M. on the evening of
Thursday, 8 November. It is obligatory that you register then. We invite
all participants to join us in toasting the success of the Championships
with a glass of champagne. On registration, as previously, all contestants
will receive a 'goodie bag' of souvenirs.

The US$30,500 prize fund for the event will be paid out as follows:

National Allocations
Since 1997, a formula has been in place for determining sizes of national
teams. Countries that have competed before have an established quota, and
are categorized as "A", "B" or "C" countries if they have respectively 6
or more, 3-5 or 1-2 representatives. Any "A" country that has at least ½
of its players in the top 25%, and no more than one player in the bottom
25%, gets an extra player for the next Championship. Any "B" country that
has at least three of its players in the top 33%, and no more than one
player in the bottom 25%, gets an extra player for the next Championship.
Any "C" country that has all of its players in the top 50% gets an extra
player for the next Championship.

1st Kerala State Inter School Scrabble
Championship, 10th Nov, 2007

Ernakulam Women's Association
The Ernakulam Women's Association (EWA) was formed in 1919, as a common platform
for women of this region. The primary objective was social service. The
Association established a nursery school in 1955 and 'Sradha' a school for
children with special needs in 1990.
The pride of the Association is an 'A' grade library which was established in
1954. It is the 2nd biggest library in Ernakulam. The library opened its doors
to the public in 2005. Under its auspices, an inter-school scrabble competition
is being held on the 10th November 2007.
The "Ernakulam Women's Association Ever Green Scrabble Championship" is an
attempt to arouse among school children a curiosity and passion in the nuances
of the English language. Besides encouraging strong reading habits, it enhances
vocabulary skills. These skills, if learnt young, will stand students in good
stead in all areas of academics and future careers. In order to read, write and
speak English effectively and effortlessly, reading habits have to be revived.
Schools can select 4 students- a team of 2 in each category,- ie. Juniors from
8th 9th and 10th standards and seniors from plus one and plus two classes- for
this word quest after a preliminary round to popularize the game and foster an
interest in the English Language. Interested Schools have to register by the 5th
of November and pay a fees of Rs.100/- per team. The team is to report by 9 am
on Saturday, the 10 th November. There will be an Rolling Trophy to be won in
each category. The prize money will be Rs. 5,000/-, Rs.3000/- and Rs.1000/- for
the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively for each category. There will be a
special prize of Rs. 2500/- for the most promising participant.

International Scrabble Tournament, 2008 Bangalore, India
iGATE Global Solutions, the integrated technology and
operations (iTOPS) company and Karnataka State Scrabble Association (KSSA) are
proud to announce the 4th International Scrabble Tournament to be held in iGATE
campus in Whitefield, Bangalore from January 11, 2008 to January 13, 2008. The
three-day tournament will have a total prize award of over Rs. 400,000 (about US
$ 10,000)
Date: January 11, 12 and 13.
Venue: iGATE Global Solutions, Whitefield, Bangalore.
Accommodation:
Ginger Hotel: Less than a km from the tournament venue, but 10 km away
from the city centre. Tariff ranges from Rs.1679 (about 42 USD) for single AC
room and Rs.2015 (inclusive of taxes) double/twin AC room per day. This hotel is

Format:
The tournament is an Open International Tournament. There will be 24 games of 50
minutes each played over 3 days. The players will play 16 games - 8 on the first
day and 8 on the second day with a King of The Hill (KOTH) with no repeats
format. On Day 3 all the eight games will be KOTH format irrespective of
repeats. Word source will be the Collins Scrabble Tournament and Club Wordlist.
Challenge: 5 point penalty per word, the player does not lose turn.
Prize:
1st prize: Rs.200,000 (aprx US $ 5000)
2nd prize: Rs.100,000 (aprx US $ 2500)
3rd prize: Rs. 50,000 (aprx US $ 1250)
And prizes up to the 10th place.

Entry fee: The tournament is conducted by KSSA who will collect an entry
fee of Rs 2,000 per participant. The association promotes competitive scrabble
in Karnataka, and in association with the Scrabble Association of India the rest
of the country as well. Entry fee can be paid on the day of the tournament.
Late Registration: Entries registered after January 1, 2008, will have to pay an
extra amount of Rs 500.
Note: There will be qualifying tournaments for local players in Mumbai,
Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Goa. Details will be announced shortly.
